Common physical sizes

Turkey50 × 60 mm biometric photo preset.
United States2 × 2 inches, approximately 51 × 51 mm.
United Kingdom / common format35 × 45 mm printed-photo preset.
Canada50 × 70 mm printed-photo preset.

These are common size presets, not a guarantee of acceptance. Requirements can vary by document type, submission method, age and country, and authorities can update them. Always compare the finished photo with the current official instructions for your exact application.

Millimetres, inches and pixels

Millimetres and inches describe physical print size. Pixels describe the digital image. The connection between them depends on print resolution, commonly expressed as pixels per inch (PPI). A file can have the correct aspect ratio but still print at the wrong physical size if the printing process scales it.

A print-ready sheet should preserve the intended physical dimensions. When printing, disable “fit to page” or automatic scaling and use 100% / actual size unless the authority or photo service instructs otherwise.

Crop and head position

Do not stretch a portrait to force it into the target ratio. Crop it. Keep the face centered and leave enough space around the head according to the official head-height and eye-position rules. Filenero provides a positioning guide, but it does not detect a face or verify compliance.

Before you upload the portrait

  • Use a recent, sharp, front-facing photograph.
  • Use the background, lighting and expression required by the authority.
  • Avoid beauty filters, artificial background replacement and visible digital retouching.
  • Keep the original image in case the crop must be adjusted.
  • Check whether a professional photographer or certification is mandatory.

Single JPG or print sheet?

Choose the JPG when an online application asks for a digital photo. Choose a 4 × 6 inch PDF sheet when you intend to print multiple correctly sized copies. A home printer may still be unsuitable if the authority requires professional paper, studio production, stamps or certification.

Important: Filenero sizes and arranges the image. It cannot verify identity, measure every biometric rule or guarantee that an application office will accept the result.
